Senior Account Executive – Capital Markets Technology
Location: New York / New Jersey
Work Arrangement: Hybrid
Industry: Financial Technology / Capital Markets
The Opportunity
A rapidly growing financial technology company is expanding its sales organization and is looking for experienced, highly driven sales professionals to capitalize on a significant market opportunity within the buy side of the capital markets.
The company provides technology that helps investment organizations move away from spreadsheet-driven processes, improve operational scalability, and better manage increasingly complex investment strategies.
This is an opportunity to join a business at an exciting point in its growth. The company has established relationships with major financial institutions and has identified a substantial addressable market where demand for its technology is accelerating.
The successful candidate will have the opportunity to build relationships with senior investment professionals, develop new business, and remain involved in accounts as they expand—creating significant upside beyond the initial sale.
What You’ll Do
- Develop and execute a strategic territory plan focused on acquiring new buy-side clients.
- Prospect into asset managers, insurance companies, hedge funds, and other institutional investment organizations.
- Build relationships with senior decision-makers, particularly portfolio managers and other front-office investment professionals.
- Generate opportunities through proactive networking, relationship development, referrals, events, and targeted prospecting.
- Navigate complex, consultative sales cycles involving multiple stakeholders.
- Lead opportunities from initial conversation through contract negotiation and close.
- Partner closely with sales engineering and internal teams to develop compelling solutions for prospects.
- Continue developing relationships after the initial sale and identify opportunities to expand accounts.
- Build a strong network across the investment and capital markets community.
- Become a trusted resource to clients by understanding their business challenges and the market in which they operate.
What We’re Looking For
The ideal candidate is an established capital markets technology salesperson who combines strong industry knowledge with a genuine hunter mentality.
We’re looking for someone who:
- Has a proven track record of selling technology or software to buy-side financial institutions.
- Is comfortable engaging directly with portfolio managers and other senior investment professionals.
- Has experience developing business rather than relying primarily on inbound opportunities.
- Enjoys networking, relationship building, and creating opportunities from scratch.
- Is comfortable with executive-level conversations and longer, consultative sales cycles.
- Understands the language and dynamics of the capital markets.
- Is curious, intellectually engaged, and capable of learning a complex product and market quickly.
- Is confident enough to ask questions and learn from clients, colleagues, and internal experts.
- Works well in a collaborative, team-oriented sales environment.
- Is willing to invest the time required to build relationships through meetings, networking events, dinners, and other industry activities.
Experience with private credit, structured finance, residential mortgage loans, whole loans, asset-backed finance, or related investment strategies is highly valuable, but deep technical expertise in these areas is not necessarily required.
What matters most is a strong foundation in capital markets, proven sales ability, curiosity, and the willingness and ability to learn.
The Sales Environment
This is not an order-taking sales role.
The company is looking for someone who knows how to identify opportunities, create relationships, earn meetings, and develop business within sophisticated financial institutions.
The average initial opportunity is approximately $200K–$300K, with significant potential to expand successful client relationships over time. Existing accounts have grown substantially through a land-and-expand approach, giving successful salespeople the opportunity to continue developing relationships well beyond the initial transaction.
Sales cycles generally run approximately 4–8 months, with the median currently around 5–6 months.
Why This Opportunity
- Join a growing financial technology business with substantial market opportunity.
- Sell a solution addressing a significant and increasingly important problem for institutional investors.
- Work directly with senior investment professionals and decision-makers.
- Build and leverage a high-value network across the buy side.
- Own relationships from initial prospecting through expansion.
- Benefit from a compensation structure designed to reward strong sales performance.
- Join at a point where additional sales capacity can have a meaningful impact on the company’s growth.
- Help build the next phase of the sales organization rather than simply inheriting an established territory.
Location
The company is particularly interested in candidates who are based in or around New York City and can easily access the broader financial services community.
The Ideal Candidate
This role is best suited to someone who has spent several years selling into the capital markets and has developed the relationships, confidence, and commercial instincts required to open doors with sophisticated financial institutions.
You don’t need to know everything on day one. You do need to know the market, know how to sell, enjoy hunting for business, and have the curiosity and drive to become an expert in what you’re selling.
